In news that impacts more than 40,000 Porsche Taycan owners around the world, a global recall has been issued.
This recall is due to airbag issues in the electric vehicle that have been reported to cause airbags and seat belt tensioners to fail in certain circumstances.
Due to this being a serious safety concern, the German manufacturer has been forced to recall the vehicle, much to the dismay of motorists everywhere.

The problem that has caused the recall primarily relates to the car’s airbags, as well as its belt tensioners. When the driver or passenger’s seats are adjusted, an issue involving a faulty wiring harness causes it to become damaged. This damage can then result in the airbag deactivating, which is clearly a significant safety risk if the vehicle is then involved in an accident.
To combat the issue, Porsche is recalling 40,000 models and is intending to fix the problem by using textile fabric tape to secure the harness and prevent it from becoming damaged when seats are adjusted.
Motorists may remember that this is not the first time Porsche has had to conduct a major recall.
In 2021, the brand was forced to recall 43,000 of the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo. This was because of a software problem that would cause the engine to unexpectedly, and often completely randomly, switch off. Following the recall, a simple software update was implemented that was able to stop the issue from occurring.
With the Taycan acting as Porsche’s first ever fully electric car, it seems like the manufacturer is still getting to grips with the technology.
So far, we know that 40,000 Porsche Taycans from around the world will be part of the global recall. What we don’t know is where these vehicles are located, or how many are likely to be in the UK.
Porsche has revealed that all affected cars were manufactured between 10 July 2019 and 18 May 2021, so if you know that your car falls into this timeframe, you should get in touch with our nearest dealership.
