Any driver will agree that one of the most irritating things that can happen whilst driving is the windscreen misting up.
Not only is it impractical, it can be severely dangerous if left to continue misting up, so drivers should be prepared for how to resolve this issue – and even prevent it in the first place.
Here, we run through some tips to help keep your windscreen from misting up.
Cleaning windows regularly will reduce the dust and oil that could build up on your glass and provide more surface area for water to cling to. By removing this, your windows will not mist up so easily.
The best way to clean the outside of your windscreen is to use a squeegee or a sponge, with soapy water. Make sure you lift your wiper blades as dirt could be hidden under them, and you don’t want your wipers to spread any dirt when you use them. Especially if you have just cleaned your windscreen!
These remove some of the moisture in the air, preventing your car’s glass from misting up in the first place and then allowing you to clear the car more quickly if it does. You can get a dehumidifier from most shops and supermarkets. They look like a sponge and are best to be placed in the middle of your dashboard, just away from the windscreen.
A dehumidifier can also be used to wipe your windscreen. One of the leading brands is double sided just for this.
It cannot always be helped if there is heavy rain outside, take an umbrella! If you yourself are dry when you get in your car, this will reduce the potential for any of the windows misting up. If you are wet and get in your car, the water vapour from your wet clothes may start to gather on your windows, causing them to mist up.
Using any, or a combination of these tips will seriously help you keep the mist levels of your windscreen and the moisture within your vehicle much more under control, whatever the season.
