How to Clean a Van – A Guide

As a van owner, you’ll know only too well how dirty your van can get when going between different work sites and jobs.

But if you use your van for business purposes, it’s important to clean it regularly to keep it looking its best. That’s because it leaves a good impression on potential customers and reflects your company in the best light.

Let’s take a look at how to clean a van in the most effective way.

How to clean a van’s exterior

Begin with the outside of your van and the following steps:

  1. Begin by cleaning the van’s wheels. Your alloys are usually the dirtiest part of the vehicle, so hose them down and then go over them with a stiff brush to eradicate stubborn dirt and debris.
  2. Next, move on to cleaning the body of your van. Use a hose or jet wash to rinse the van before wiping it down with a sponge or washing mitt. You may need to use a ladder to reach the van’s roof.
  3. Save your windscreen for last. This is so you don’t get dirty streaks from the van’s body on a clean windscreen. Use a glass cleaner and cloth to wipe the windscreen and take some time to top up the windscreen wiper fluid. Keep an eye out for any windscreen damage as you clean it.

Once you’ve cleaned the outside, move on to its interior.

  1. It’s normal for rubbish to gather in side doors and footwells over time, so begin by removing any food packaging, plastic bags or other litter that has made its way into your van.
  2. Then, take out your mats and clean them. Bash them to clear them of dust, then wash, dry and vacuum
  3. Vacuum your van’s interior. Handheld vacuums are particularly handy here to help you easily manoeuvre around the van.
  4. Once you’ve finished, take some time to organise your van’s interior.
